NEW YORK -- A day after being shut out on three singles, J. Damon Severson Jersey .J. Hardy and the Baltimore Orioles got blanked for six innings Sunday on what was shaping up as a lost weekend. "We were a little flat. We could all see it, we could all feel it," Hardy said. That all changed in a hurry. Hardy and Adam Jones hit three-run homers during a seven-run burst in the seventh as Baltimore suddenly broke loose, jolting the New York Yankees 7-3 to avert a sweep in a matchup of wild-card contenders. "Hopefully, it jump-starts us in September," Hardy said. The Orioles rallied against Andy Pettitte and a faltering bullpen. Michael Morse lined a leadoff single to begin the comeback from a 3-0 deficit. Acquired from Seattle on Friday, he got two hits in his Baltimore debut. "We just needed a little spark there," Morse said. Hardys shot against Shawn Kelley (4-2) glanced off the glove of right fielder Curtis Granderson and put the Orioles ahead 4-3. After reliever Boone Logan gave up a bunt single and walk, Jones homered to dead centre field came against Joba Chamberlain. "It was tough today. A chance for us to sweep and it is completely on me," Kelley said. The seven runs matched the Orioles biggest inning of the season. It also tied the most allowed by the Yankees in an inning this year. "We needed it big," Jones said. "Things hadnt fallen into place." The Orioles won for the second time in six games on a road trip that includes three more games at Cleveland. The Yankees had beaten Baltimore two in row while extending their home winning streak to six. New York had been 32-0 at home this year when leading by at least two runs, the Elias Sports Bureau said in research provided by the Yankees. Rookie Kevin Gausman (2-3) pitched two scoreless innings after starter Wei-Yin Chen walked a career-high five on a sticky afternoon. Gausmans other win came against the Yankees on June 28 with 4 1-3 scoreless innings. Four Baltimore relievers combined for five shutout innings. Brett Gardner doubled twice and drew a bases-loaded walk for the Yankees. But Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter each struck out three times and Alfonso Soriano was thrown out at first on a sensational play by charging third baseman Manny Machado. Pettitte has beaten Baltimore 29 times in the regular season and playoffs, and seemed to be cruising through six innings. He had walked none, worked around five singles and wasnt in trouble. But Morse and Danny Valencia opened the seventh with sharp singles, and Yankees manager Joe Girardi made the first of his several trips to the mound. "Any time you turn to our bullpen, you feel good about it. It just didnt work out today," Pettitte said. "They send you out there to get guys out and I gave up two hits that started a rally," he said. "You cant second-guess with our bullpen. We have the best bullpen in the league, in my opinion." Not on this day, though. Matt Wieters greeted Kelley with an RBI single. Hardy, who broke an 0-for-13 rut with an earlier single, hit the first pitch for his 24th home run. Granderson got his glove on the opposite-field drive as he ran back and reached above the wall. "I couldnt tell the exact angle of where it landed, but I made a little bit of contact with the ball and a lot of contact with the wall," Granderson said. "Its not a routine play but a chance to make an exciting one." Jones connected for his 28th homer. Soriano hit an RBI single in the third. The Yankees scored two more in the fourth on Gardners walk and a sacrifice fly by Jeter. NOTES: Jeter moved past Bernie Williams for sixth on the Yankees career RBIs list with 1,258. ... Baltimore is 8-7 against the Yankees this year. ... Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez returned after missing a day with flu-like symptoms. His sun shades fell off while he chased Valencias early infield single ... Yankees RHP Phil Hughes (4-13, 4.91) pitches Monday at home against White Sox LHP Jose Quintana (7-4, 3.66). ... RHP Bud Norris (9-10, 4.13) starts for the Orioles on Monday at Cleveland against RHP Justin Masterson (14-9, 3.49). ... Former Tennessee womens basketball coach Pat Summitt was joined by Girardi behind home plate for a pregame ceremony to raise awareness during World Alzheimers Month. The record-breaking coach stepped down in April 2012 because of early-onset dementia, Alzheimers type. Will Butcher Jersey . -- The taxing preseason, which included two games in China, is finally over. Damon Severson Devils Jersey . For the Miami Heat, that was outstanding news. LeBron James scored the last of his 32 points on a layup that put Miami up for good with 11. LOS ANGELES -- Yasiel Puig extended his career-best hitting streak to 12 games with his third home run in four days, a go-ahead three-run shot, and drew a bases-loaded walk in the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 win over the Florida Marlins on Monday night. Dan Haren (5-1) overcame a shaky start following his 3-2 loss at Washington last Wednesday, allowing three runs and seven hits over seven innings without walking a batter after losing his previous four decisions against the Marlins. The right-hander is 6-2 lifetime against Miami, the only other victory coming on a four-hit shutout in July 2009 with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Phoenix. Brian Wilson inherited a 6-3 lead from Haren and promptly gave up a leadoff walk to Christian Yelich and a home run by pinch-hitter and former Dodger Reed Johnson on the next pitch. But Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save, one day after he was charged with three runs in the 10th inning of a 7-4 loss to San Francisco. Yelich helped stake Tom Koehler (3-3) to a 3-1 lead with a solo homer in the third, but the Marlins right-hander never made it through the fourth. He walked No. 8 hitter Drew Butera, then Dee Gordon with two outs, and Puig drove the next pitch into the pavilion seats in left-centre for his sixth home run to give Los Angeles a 4-3 lead. Koehler gave up four runs, six hits and five walks in 3 2-3 innings. In his previous two starts, he allowed no runs and five hits over 15 innings, beating the Dodgers 6-3 at Miami and following up with a no-decision against the New York Mets. Los Angeles added two more runs in the fifth, including an RBI single by Andre Ethier after Matt Kemp was grazed on the helmet by Henry Rodriguezs pitch and stole second on the right-handers next delivery to Ethier. Rodriguez also forced in a run with his bases-loaded walk to Puig. Kemp, playing in his 1,000th regular-season game, singled leading off the second inning and stolee second before Haren drove him in from third with a single that tied the score at 1. Jamie Langenbrunner Jersey. Yelich drove a 3-2 pitch to left-centre in the third for his fourth homer, giving the Marlins a 2-1 lead. It was the first of four consecutive hits against Haren, including an RBI single by Giancarlo Stanton that extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games. But Jarrod Saltalamacchia grounded into an inning-ending double-play. Haren allowed only one more hit after that -- a leadoff double in the sixth by Stanton. First base umpire Laz Diaz, who was admonished by Major League Baseball last week for his role in the ejections of New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi on May 5 against the Angels had a call of his overturned in the Marlins first inning. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly challenged Diazs ruling that Stanton was safe, after Haren took the toss from Adrian Gonzalez on Stantons grounder and stepped on the bag a split-second before the runner did. Replays confirmed that Mattingly was correct, and Stanton had to settle for a run-scoring groundout, which helped increase his major league-leading RBIs total to 42. NOTES: Eighteen years ago this month, Marlins third base coach Brett Butler learned that he had tonsil cancer while playing for the Dodgers. This was his first visit to Chavez Ravine in a major league uniform since 2005, when he was the Diamondbacks first base coach. ... Dodgers 3B Juan Uribe, who missed the previous three games because of a sore right hamstring, took batting practice with his teammates and was declared "available in different roles" by Mattingly. But he remained on the bench. ... Twelve of Puigs 26 big league homers have come on the first pitch. ... Kemp had a career-high 40 stolen bases in 2011 before injuries to his left hamstring and left ankle limited him to a combined 179 games in 2012 and 2013. This was only the second time he has two steals in a game since Aug. 11, 2012, at Miami. ' ' '8 @0 Y& B2 u% d& R/ W) f
